Glue Board Fly Killers

What is a glue board? A glue board (aka sticky board or gluepad) is a piece of stiff card with very heavy adhesive on one side. It is inserted into a fly killer machine.

What is a fly killer machine? It is a device that attracts flying insects by shining ultra violet light and then traps them.

What is ultra violet (uv) light? It is light just like any other light. It just happens to be invisible to humans but not to flies, who are extremely partial to it and tend to eagerly fly towards it. Anyway, a fly killer machine attracts flies using its uv light. Some fly killer machines have electric grids that electrocute the fly while others have glue boards on which the fly is trapped. This brings us back where we started.

Once the fly is trapped, it is no longer a threat. Fly killer machines that use glue boards are often used in situations where silent operation is required. Fly killers that electrocute (or zap) the fly give out an unmistakable noise that lets everyone know that the machine has made a kill. Some restaurants would prefer a more subtle operation where the fly discreetly flies into the fly killer machine and never comes out - and no sound is ever heard. Glue board fly killer machines are often made to mimic wall lights. Diners in a restaurant will not give these lamps a second glance, but they are not lamps in the normal sense. They are difference between having a fly spreading germs and giving the restaurant a bad name and a restaurant that pays regard to hygiene and has a good reputation.

If you live near a field or know somebody that does, then you may be aware that they will get more than their fair share of flies (and wasps). Similarly, if you keep livestock, have stables or even a dog, you will have more than the average amount of visits from curious flying insects. The same goes if you live near a food production plant or a refuse dump. For those who are in these areas, they too may prefer one of these discreet fly killer “lamps” instead of the industrial-looking zappers. Life is more comfortable in a fly-free environment. There is nothing worse than trying to entertain friends with a rolled up newspaper in one hand, at the ready. To be on constant guard when you should be relaxing is not ideal. Worse still is the fact that your unwelcome visitors - the flying ones, not your friends - will also spread disease. They will typically visit animal droppings, or a trash can, and then fly around your kitchen, spreading germs that they have picked up on their feet or regurgitating their own saliva on solids that they need to soften in order to digest. Not nice - and completely avoidable if a fly killer machine is used.

Fly killers fitted with glueboards will use less electricity than zapper fly killers. In an age when electricity prices are rising this is an increasingly significant consideration. There are also those who like to count their dead flies. Why, you may ask? Counting how many flies are killed will give an indication of the fly killer machine’s effectiveness and an idea of flying insect activity. This is particularly useful to entomologists and other scientists and researchers, especially those concerned with the environment. Pest controllers will also use this method to determine the best place to site a fly killer. By moving the machine from one location to another they can count the amount of flies caught and determine the best place to site the machine. Manufacturers of fly killer machines, such as Insect-o-cutor. also use this method to test fly killer machine designs.

The method of trapping flying insects using glue has been with us for a very long time and way before electricity came along and gave us zappers. Hanging sticky papers is a practice that still happens today. It is much less common as most people would rather not see lots of dead flies hanging in their kitchen. Not only did electricity give us zappers but it also gave us ultra violet lamps. These will attract the flies to the glue, whereas sticky papers tended to only work if there were enough of them or if the fly’s seemingly random flight pattern happened to take it to the paper.

Glue board fly killers are used extensively around the world. If you knew very little about them before and know more now, then at least, when you next are harassed by a fly that refuses to be swatted, you know there is another way to do it.

Triggering Intention How To Remember To Remember

You’ve got a lot to store in that brain of yours.
Sometimes you need to remind yourself to remember
something. The most effective way to remember is to
choose your triggers wisely.

Post-its work great, but I’m all for simplifying things
even further. By choosing to make a certain behavior a
trigger for a particular thought, we can skip the paper
and adhesive and get right to the important stuff.

The trick is to be intentional about it. We tend to hop
in the shower and let our minds wander to all the stuff
we’re supposed to do. We go about the process of
soaping, shaving, and shampooing without paying much
attention to what we’re doing. We jump into our cars
each morning, absorbed by our thoughts. We wash the
dishes, sort the laundry, wait in line at the gas station,
stand at the grocery counter, and vegetate during
commercials without noticing what we’re thinking. By
incorporating some simple mindfulness techniques into
our daily routine, we can focus on our intentions and
create lasting changes in our brains.

We’ve already learned that in order to get our brains to
work for us instead of against us, we must come up
with present-tense statements that we would like to be
true, and we have to repeat them to ourselves daily.
Spend some time coming up with two or three
one-sentence statements about how you want to feel.

No fair using numbers. This isn’t about setting sales
goals or salary amounts or even the number of pounds
you want to lose. Make a statement that simply
describes how you want to feel about your life right
now.

Here’s a list of possible statements:

“I am filled with joy and excitement each day.”

“I feel confident, relaxed, and open to whatever the
day may bring.”

“I have plenty of time to accomplish whatever I need
to do.”

“I have plenty of energy to enjoy my free time.”

“I attract plenty of money for all my needs.”

“I am surrounded by loving people who want only the
best for me.”

“I am fit, healthy and active.”

“I am calm and mindful of all that arises in and around me.”

Your brain needs to hear these positive statements,
even if you think YOU don’t need to. Humor your brain,
okay? Give it some happy food to chew on. Allow your
mind to mull things over subconsciously.

Brain research tells us that we need to see it, say it
and hear it. If at all possible, say your statements out
loud if only in a whisper. Watch yourself in a mirror
while you do it. Hear your voice saying the words.
Visualize what it looks and feels like when each
statement is true. The more senses you engage, the
more quickly your brain will absorb your statement.

Remember that your mind doesn’t sort thoughts into
neat piles marked “real” or “imagined”. Everything goes
in and is processed in the same way. You must feed
your brain what you want to believe. We all do a great
job of spooning in the negative thoughts, so why is it
too much to ask to dish out a few positive ones?

Once you’ve got your statements, then what? How do
you remember to repeat them in a consistent way?

Choose your triggers. Select a certain habit or activity
that you engage in every single day. It can be
something as simple as brushing your teeth. Any
activity that gives you about 30 seconds of time to
focus will work. It helps to choose an activity that is
somehow related to your intention statement.

For example, let’s say that you want to feel less
rushed. Think of a trigger related to time. Hitting the
snooze button? Looking at your watch? Waiting for
your bus or train? Don’t choose ALL of these-you
won’t remember them all. Instead, choose one single
action to be your trigger for repeating that statement.
Think “time” whenever you engage in that activity, and
repeat your statement: “I have plenty of time to
accomplish everything I need to do.” Or, you could
use that trigger to think “relaxed” and repeat “I am
relaxed and unhurried.”

Use the language that works best for you, but make
sure it is present tense and positive–say “I am relaxed”
instead of “I’m not stressed.” Neuroscientific studies
indicate that if we say the word “stressed” our brains
will zero in on that and skip the “not” part!

Once you’ve selected it, start creating the habit of
repeating your statement to yourself whenever you
engage in that behavior.

Want to work on your attitude about money? Every
time you open your checkbook or use your credit card,
remember “plenty” and repeat your intention statement
about it. “I attract plenty of money for all of my
needs.” Maybe you want to spend less money. In that
case, think “save” and say “I save money wisely” or “I
am thrifty and frugal.”

Looking to improve your approach to your wellness?
Repeat your intention statement each time you take
the first bite of a meal or lace up your exercising
shoes. Think “healthy” and repeat “I am fit, healthy
and active.”

Longing to find a loving relationship? Each time you see
an affectionate couple or someone you find attractive,
remember “love” and state your intention: “I am loved
deeply and treated lovingly.”

It’s easy to get caught up in the negative thought
cycles we’ve all developed during our lives. Our brains
already know the “I’m never going to get ahead
financially” story and the “No matter what I do, I can’t
lose this weight” story. Our minds are getting way too
many repeats of the “Other people fulfill their dreams,
but not me” fairy tale.

Ack. Turn the page. New story!

Dish up some positive intention statements, and make
sure they become a regular part of your routine by
attaching them to the triggers you feel will work best
for you. Make it easy for your brain to remember to
remember.

And okay, use Post-its if that helps.

It is very important to know that the vast majority (almost all) of the private label opportunities in this country come from water resellers (not bottlers) with desktop-model “thermal” (or “thermal wax”) printing devices with a quality level that cannot compare well to even consumer-grade inkjet printing devices widely available for less than $200 at your local electronics store. These label printers are very cheap in both quality and cost, typically ranging from $10-20k depending on configuration, and are widely used throughout the private label water industry because of their low cost.

In sharp contrast, a quality label, i.e., one that looks like a top-shelf brand that you might find in your local gourmet grocery store, needs to be produced with professional-quality equipment using professional-grade printing equipment. There are three types of printing equipment that can produce a high-quality label.

1. Rotary offset lithography;
2. Flexography; and
3. High-quality digital presses.

For most smaller runs (under about 10,000 units), digital equipment offered by Heidelberg or HP is the most cost effective solution, but instead of $10-20k, the minimum equipment costs for these professional solutions range from $750k to $1.25M per station.

These facts are very important to understand when choosing a private label bottler because those who sell low-quality labels would have you believe that nothing better is available because of the short runs required by private label customers. Nothing could be further from the truth.

In order to succeed, your label must be professionally designed and produced with high-quality materials using a printing process that renders a high-quality result. Waterproof lamination is also required for long lasting labels. This is easily achieved for an affordable unit cost using the right equipment for the job.

3. Quality of Customer Service

The design and production of private labeled drinking water is complex and requires intense interaction between the customer and supplier. Communication and a culture of customer service excellence is a prerequisite to the creation of an effective theme message and a successful event. Without a significant commitment to customer service on the part of the supplier, the impact of the theme message will fail.
