Companies are looking to reduce workplace stress. Employees under stress are less productive and creative as employees who have a grasp on their emotions and deadlines.The following are ways to resuce stress on the job.

Employers should take time to ask employees what would make them more productive at work. Many employees are never given the chance to voice their opinions. Stress is reduced when management spends time listening to employees.

Creativity breaks the monotony of everyday workplace routines. Employers can try a stand-up meeting where everyone remains standing during the staff meeting. Celebrating untraditional holidays such as Ugly Tie Day or Clean off Your Desk Day is another way of easing tension in the office.

Employers should let their staff know they are appreciated. This can be done by simply attaching a personalized letter to an employee’s paycheck. Giving out awards such as a box of candy for the “Good and Plenty Award” to a person who always has lots of good ideas is another way to express gratitude toward employees.

Encourage employees to bring pictures of their pets for a “World’s Cutest pets” bulletin board.

Start staff meetings by asking “What positive thing happened to you last week at work”? The discussion starts the meeting on an upbeat note.

Ask employees to share what produces stress at work. Then of course, brainstorm for solutions. Just the fact that management takes the time to listen makes employees more open to sharing problems and solutions.

Stress is an everyday part of life. With open communication and a few motivational tools, stress can become manageble, enabling employees to be productive and satisfied.

Does the coming winter chill remind you how much you miss the basic element of fire to warm those long nights? Unfortunately, your home’s builder wasn’t the romantic you are, and you have no fireplace. Never fear, The Budget Decorator is here! Ok, so that’s corny, but this project sure isn’t!

The first thing to do is to determine what element you want your fireplace to be made of. A lot of this depends on the formality of your room, and the style of fireplace you choose to make. Paint, tiles, faux bricks, wood molding and plywood, scrap beadboard, it goes on as far as your creativity.

Next, you’ll need to determine how much labor you want to put into the construction. The options range from a flat front “tromp loeil” style fireplace, to a wooden construction of an actual fireplace box and mantle.

Suggestions to get you started:

Faux stone fireplace

Mask off the entire area of the fireplace, and paint it a background color-this will be your grout color. Mask off an area that will be the firebox, paint it a matte black color. Take an ordinary household sponge and tear it into several different size irregular pieces, simulating pieces of rock or stone. In a paper plate, pour three earth tone colors of craft paint. Dab the sponge into the paint colors, dont worry about them mixing some, dab off the extra paint so it doesn’t run, then “stamp”stones onto the fireplace background. Continue to alternate sponge sizes, leaving some space between stones for a natural masonry look. Alternatively, if you have access to many smaller stones, how about glueing the stones right to the painted background! Add a mantle;a simple pine shelf will do.Be sure to accessorize the mantle with personal photos, and most importantly, candles! Candles give the impression of fire, and the mantle and firebox complete the illusion. This would be a great choice for an informal rustic space.

Faux tile fireplace

Seen those cool contemporary ceramic or stone tiled fireplaces? Easy to do. Same concept as above, except slightly more formal. You could either mask off the tiles with

We all know that Super Glue is one of the strongest and fastest bonding adhesives on the market today. Because of its wide use, people have found that they might accidentally glue their fingers together or to another object. If this happens to you, don’t worry. Although Super Glue is incredibly strong, it still has a major weakness which is acetone.

Household products such as nail polish remover contain the chemical acetone. If you place a small amount of nail polish remover on a cotton swab or Q-tip, you can apply it directly to your skin to dissolve the bond. This process doesn’t damage the skin however it can discolor fabrics and damage laminated counter tops. Straight acetone can also burn your skin so use with caution.

If Super Glue happens to stick together body parts where acetone can’t be applied (such as lips or eyes) then follow this advice.

For skin bonded together with Super Glue soak the affected areas in warm soapy water. After a few minutes peel or roll the skin apart. If you have trouble with this try using tools such as a pencil or a spatula. After this remove the cured Super Glue with warm soapy water. This may take several applications.

If you accidentally stick your lips together apply a large amount of warm water while wetting your lips with saliva from the inside of your mouth. After a few minutes try to peel or roll your lips apart (do NOT pull). Super Glue solidifies when it touches saliva (or moisture) and could actually stick to the inside of your mouth. Within 1-2 days the saliva should break down the glue. Avoid swallowing the glue after detachment.

Eyelids are a bit trickier. If you do happen to stick your eyelids together wash it with warm water and then apply a gauze patch. In 1-4 days the eyelid will open on its own without further action. To this day there hasn’t been a documented case of adhesive to the eye that has caused permanent damage so try not to worry. Do not try and force your eyes open.

Getting Super Glue on your eyeball will cause the glue to attach to the eye protein, but only for a matter of time (several hours). Weeping and double vision may occur until the adhesive has dissolved. Washing with a warm 3% sodium bicarbonate solution may help in speeding up the removal of the adhesive.
